Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 20, 2026  ·  Last Updated: April 20, 2026

SafeIntake ("we," "us," or "our") is a family of barcode scanning apps designed to help people with dietary restrictions, allergies, and health goals make safer choices. We are committed to a strict privacy-first approach. Your personal and health-related data remains under your control at all times.

SafeIntake is not a medical service, not a diagnostic tool, and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical guidance, especially for allergies, intolerances, or health conditions.

1. Core Privacy Principles

  • No account required. Use the app without signing up or providing personal information.
  • On-device storage. Your data stays on your device.
  • No tracking. We do not monitor your behaviour across apps or services.
  • No ads. No advertising, no data sharing with marketers.
  • No data sales. We never sell or share your personal or health data.

2. Information We Collect (and Do Not Collect)

2.1 No Personal Identifiers

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location.

2.2 Information Stored Locally on Your Device

To provide personalised results, SafeIntake stores the following only on your device:

  • Dietary profile: allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities
  • Health preferences: sugar and carbohydrate sensitivity levels
  • Scan history: SAFE, CAUTION, or UNSAFE results
  • App settings

This information is never uploaded, transmitted, or accessible to us.

2.3 Device Access

  • Camera: used only to scan barcodes. No images or videos are stored or transmitted.
  • Internet: used only to retrieve product data when scanning new items.

3. Barcode Scanning and Third-Party Data

SafeIntake retrieves product information from Open Food Facts and related Open * Facts databases (a family of public, community-maintained databases).

When you scan a barcode:

  • Only the barcode number is sent
  • No personal data or dietary profile is transmitted
  • Requests may include standard network data such as an IP address

All safety analysis, including allergen detection, health scoring, and additive flagging, is performed locally on your device.

Third-party services operate under their own privacy policies. SafeIntake does not control their practices.

4. How Your Data Is Used

All processing happens on your device to:

  • Compare ingredients against your allergen profile
  • Detect hidden allergens using tags, trace warnings, and ingredient text parsing
  • Analyse sugar and carbohydrate content
  • Identify potentially risky additives
  • Generate a health score from 0 to 100
  • Provide a clear SAFE, CAUTION, or UNSAFE verdict
  • Maintain your scan history

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, tracking, or external analytics.

5. Data Storage, Retention, and Offline Use

  • Your data is stored locally using your device's secure storage
  • Previously scanned products are cached for up to 30 days for offline access
  • You can delete your data at any time from within the app
  • Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data

We do not store or retain your data on any external servers.

6. Data Sharing

We do not share your data. No selling, no renting, no third-party access, no advertising networks. The only external interaction is anonymous barcode queries to the Open * Facts databases.

7. Security

Because your data remains on your device, security depends on your device protections (passcode, biometrics, encryption). Keep your device secure and updated. We do not introduce additional risk through cloud storage or external databases.

8. Your Rights and Control

You have full control over your data:

  • Access and edit your dietary profile at any time
  • Delete scan history or reset your profile
  • Uninstalling the app removes all stored data

For users in regions with privacy laws such as GDPR or CCPA, most rights are exercised directly through the app due to local-only data storage.

9. Contact Form (Website Only)

Our websites include a contact form powered by Web3Forms. If you submit a message, we collect the information you provide (name, email, and message) solely to respond to your enquiry. This data is not used for marketing or shared with third parties.

10. Children's Privacy

SafeIntake does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Since no accounts or external data collection exist, there is no mechanism to store such data. Parents and guardians are responsible for configuring the app appropriately for children.

11. Health and Accuracy Disclaimer

SafeIntake is designed to assist, not replace, your judgement.

  • Product data may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect
  • Ingredient lists can change without notice
  • Allergen detection, while advanced, is not guaranteed
  • Hidden allergens may still be present

You must always double-check the physical product packaging, verify ingredients independently, and consult a qualified doctor or medical professional for any health-related decisions. You are solely responsible for your dietary choices and safety. SafeIntake and its creators are not liable for any adverse reactions, health issues, or decisions made based on the app's information.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected here with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of SafeIntake indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
